Father's Day Gifts That Wow

Written by Gemma Butler on May 13, 2024 | 0 Comments

Buying a gift for dad can be daunting. Dropping hints for what he wants is well outside the comfort zone for many dads. You know his response- he doesn’t need anything! And anything he does need, he's already researched it and bought it for himself.

So what to do? Want to avoid a tie or socks this year? We're here to help. Though he might not need it, one gift we know will bowl him over this Father’s Day is a beautiful piece of Irish jewellery.

How to choose jewlery for him

If he is already in the habit of sporting jewellery, we recommend drawing on the pieces that he already owns for inspiration. If you are buying for a dad new to jewellery, we've curated a few classic pieces below in durable and long-lasting metals like sterling silver or gold that he is sure to love. We’ve used our many years of experience in jewellery to pull together a collection from crosses to cufflinks with something to fit every dad's style.

Celtic Crosses

In our experience, people but especially men, love it when there's a story behind their jewellery. Celtic Crosses are a great example with a wonderful meaning and history. Unsurprisingly, they are a bestseller for him every Father’s Day. Here are our top picks:

Dog Tag Necklace

For the dad with a military background or one who dedicates his life to his family and is always there to protect and serve, a dog tag necklace is a great place to look for a gift. This style has gone from strength to strength in the past few years with great choice in metal, design, and symbolism and the option to make it personal with an engraving.

Lucky Talisman

For the Dad that loves his "Irish luck" or who looks on the bright side of life, his own good-luck talisman should suit him perfectly. Our handsome pendants have a meaning and symbolism he will love - the protection of a saint with a holy medal, or "lucky" shamrock:

Celtic Knots Pendants He Will Love

Symbolising love, and strength for many, Celtic Knot pieces make a heartfelt and meaningful gift for the Dad with Irish connections. We suggest the following:

Personalised Ogham Pendants For Him

How about something truly unique? You might consider our Ogham initial or name pendant. Engraved with the initial or name of his children, or another word or phrase of significance in the ancient Irish alphabet of Ogham, these pendants will be a secret and loving message that he can keep with him always.

His Family Crest Pendant

And if you are looking for a family heirloom of a different sort, our Family Crest pendant made just for him with the coat of arms of his name is a deeply personal heirloom that draws on hundreds of years of tradition and pride. Be warned, we're told this one often brings a tear to even the most hardened of eye:

Don’t Forget Chains

All of our crosses and pendants come with a quality chain. But you may want to upgrade to a longer or chunkier chain, especially if your dad is a larger gent.

Curb link chains are timeless and durable and we often recommend this style for chunkier pendants for gents. Curb chains lie flat on the neck and so they are also very comfortable, always important with men!

More on choosing the right length here. Or just drop us an email or give us a call and we would be happy to help.

Bracelets and bangles

Bracelets or bangles are not the first thing many people gravitate to for a gift for dad. But ID style bracelets or torcs are a notable exception. Our Ogham Name Bracelet is an ID style that can be inscribed with dad’s name or a special message from his kids. He is sure to love it. And with a form that mirrors the jewellery of Celtic kings, he is sure to have his head turned by a torc style bangle.

Cufflinks

If you would like to stay on more traditional ground, cufflinks are a textbook “dad gift” that are definitely a step up from socks! If your dad is a sharp dresser who wears suits for work or pleasure, you can’t go wrong with a pair of heirloom cufflinks.

Our Ogham Name Cufflinks in silver or gold - are hand engraved, perhaps with his or his kid's initials, so he can always have them with him.

Our Claddagh cufflinks are made with Irish rose gold sourced from Tyrone here in Ireland are another popular choice for him. With beautiful sentiment representing love, loyalty and friendship, the Claddagh has a meaningful story that will warm his heart. And as an added bonus, it is a piece of Ireland he can treasure forever.

Sticking with the idea of giving him his own piece of Ireland, our Connemara marble cufflinks are made with unique and rare stone found only on the wild Atlantic coast of our lovely island.
