Get Ready for St Patrick's Day!

Want to get ready to mark St Patrick's Day the Irish Way? We've picked out a few highlights, tips and more to help you get in the St Patrick's Day festive spirit
Wear your shamrock with pride!
The famous 3-leafed clover, or Shamrock is a year-round celebration of Irishness. But this unassuming plant takes centre-stage every year on St Patrick's Day.
The shamrock - St Patrick's teaching aid
Like all the best teachers, St Patrick was smart enough to use real-world examples to bring abstract concepts to life. When St Patrick was struggling to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity to Irish people - how can something be one thing, and yet, be three things at the same time? The Saint is said to have reached out and plucked a 3-leafed clover from the earth, explaining that each leaf was part of the Holy Trinity, all which made the whole. This idea certainly caught on and the Shamrock has been associated with the saint and Ireland ever since.
And if you don't have green fingers to grow a sprig of real shamrock, you can always wear a piece of our Shamrock Jewellery. Just as beautiful, is much easier to care for, and will last for all your St. Patrick's Day celebrations to come!
Learn your first Irish dancing steps with Diddlyi.com
Have fun perfecting your first Irish dance steps with Diddlyi.com. With a little practice you could be the star of the show on March 17th!
This taster video from the Diddlyi team demonstrates the first Irish dance step we all learn in school. It's the 1-2-3, or hAon-Dó-Trí as we say in Irish (pronounced "hay-n dough tree"). We've all got to start somewhere, right?
Diddlyi.com has put together a fantastic resource, to train you up from Irish-dancing novice to céilí god or goddess. Many of the instructors on the site have danced with Riverdance, you could be the next Jean Butler.
Start your St. Patrick's Day the healthy way with a delicious St Patrick's Day Smoothie with Percolate.com

This special St Patrick's Day smoothie recipe is from a very good friend of mine, Ruthy Kirwan. Ruthy runs a fresh & lively recipe blog called Percolate Kitchen, featuring delicious recipes alongside smart, funny and confessional writing from her base with her family in the Big Apple. Ruthy is from Michigan, and met her Irish husband while living and working right here in Dublin. So her Irish credentials check out too!
St Patrick's Day Smoothie (a.k.a. "Melon Monster Smoothie")
- ½ very ripe Galia melon, diced
- 1 tablespoon fresh mint, minced
- 1 cup diced kale, leaves only
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 kiwi, peeled and diced
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve cold, with optional shamrock garnish
Of course you can always go in completely the opposite direction. Many will start their St. Patricks Day with the "Full Irish" - and artery clogging fry with bacon, sausage, pudding and all the trimmings. It's not healthy but it is tasty and should set you up for a day celebrating. You may want to wait a while before trying any Irish dancing steps after eating though!

Now you're ready to celebrate at your local St Patrick's Day Parade!

Check for your local St Patrick's Day event at St-Patricks-Day.com and join the party!
Starting this weekend, hundreds of celebrations will take place around the world to mark St Patrick's Day. Here are a few highlights:
Dublin, Ireland
The parade in Dublin has the biggest in the world for some years now. Each year the parade has a loose theme with a strong Celtic influence and floats and costumes that vividly depict Irish mythology and culture. Our favourites are the fantastic marching bands that come from around the world to take part in this parade.
New York City, USA
The NYC parade, first observed in 1762, is the longest-running St Patrick's Day celebration in the world. This year's mammoth event takes place on Saturday 16th March.
Say Happy St. Patrick's Day the Irish Way
Would you like to be able to say Happy St. Patrick's Day the Irish way this year? In Gaelic it is "Beannachtaí na Féile Padraig Ort." Learn how to say it in Irish, here complete with audio guide. With a little practice you will be able to to greet all your friends and family with this wonderful Irish phase on St. Patrick's Day.

My Irish Jeweler
Born in Co. Antrim and reared in Dublin, I was fascinated with Gaelic culture from an early age. I suppose it's not surprising given my mother inherited a grá for the Irish language from my grandfather, an Irish school headmaster. And that grá continues! My brother and sister are now Gaelic teachers here in Ireland, my niece is an award winning Irish dancer, and I proudly work to share Irish culture through our Irish and Celtic Jewelry at My Irish Jeweler!
I love researching and reading about the history of Irish design. It's at the core of what we do here at My Irish Jeweler. I find much of it so interesting that I have to share what I find. I hope you enjoy it!
