Lucky in Love: Stella & Carlos

Written by Liz Maguire on Nov 23, 2022 | 0 Comments

Stella and Carlos were the lovely winners of our recent 1 carat Lab Diamond ring giveaway. This lucky pair were picked from the hat in our competition to mark the launch of our beautiful Lab Diamond ring collection.

After chatting to them to arrange for the sizing and shipping of their gorgeous 14K gold 1ct lab diamond ring, we were curious to know more about this lucky couple. Their story is gave the My Irish Jeweler team the warm fuzzies, so we just had to share our chat with Stella.

How did you two meet?

We met in 1994 while attending college. It was love at first sight and we haven’t been apart since then. The anniversary of our first date is actually this month which makes the win that much sweeter. We have been blessed with beautiful children and, now, grandchildren.

Do you have any Irish roots in your family tree?

I am 1/2 Irish on my father’s side. My grandparents were born in Ireland. My grandmother was born and raised on a farm in County Kerry along with 16 siblings. She came to America when she was a young lady. My grandfather was born in County Cork and also came to America as a young man. I miss listening to them talk and miss their thick Irish accents that sometimes made it difficult for me to understand everything they said, but I still just loved to listen to. Carlos doesn’t know much about his history but knows he is part Irish. We would love to visit the birthplaces of my grandparents and, of course, Dublin someday.

What is it about Ireland and Irish jewellery that captures your heart?

The first piece of jewellery Carlos got me was a beautiful rose gold heart Claddagh ring, and I got him a Claddagh ring as well. We have gotten our children and grandchildren jewellery from My Irish Jeweler and just love the beauty of the jewellery we have gotten. We will continue to use the company for all our jewellery needs.

I was always obsessed with Ireland and have passed that obsession onto our children. My grandparents talked about it all the time. I don’t think they ever regretted leaving Ireland because they did have blessed lives here, but I know they missed Ireland and the families they both left behind. Here in America, they left a beautiful Irish American family as their legacy which I am fortunate and proud to be a part of.

What happened when you won the Lab Diamond Ring?

When I first saw that we had won the beautiful diamond ring, I yelled so loud that I scared everyone in the house. I couldn’t contain my excitement, and the joy it bought Carlos made the win that much more priceless. He has always said that besides me he has never won anything in life, but now thanks to My Irish Jeweler he never has to say that again, although he can continue to say I am a part of the two things he has won while I get to proudly wear the only other thing he has ever won. We look forward to meeting you all someday when we take our dream vacation and visit Ireland. We will forever consider ourselves a part of the My Irish Jeweler family. Thank you all so much.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the lovely couple from all of us here at My Irish Jeweler. They were lucky in our competition and we hope that spark of Irish luck stays with them through their life and love.

My Irish Jeweler

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thanks to my Irish born father I was lucky enough to regularly visit Ireland -- and receive visitors from Ireland often, to my childhood home. This blending of cultures triggered my interest in Irish art and culture. My love for jewelry was nurtured by my American mom who is an artisan jeweler and dealer. I grew up loving Ireland and jewelry!

Now I happily reside in Dublin, having read Irish Literature and History at Trinity College Dublin. Having a passion for Irish literature, I am particularly interested in the work of poet W.B. Yeats. With the Celtic Revival in the 20th century, Yeats and his contemporaries did much for Irish arts and history. Many of our beautiful pieces at My Irish Jeweler are inspired by the myths and legends, as well as artwork, which gained permanence in Irish heritage as a result of the Celtic Revival.

I look forward to sharing the history and stories which influence the inspiration for our pieces with the My Irish Jeweler readers.
