This 10k White Gold St Brigid Cross is beautifully crafted, double sided to achieve the look of the original cross which had a rough or jagged appearance. The cross has a good solid weight and makes for a great conversation piece.
The original cross was made from rushes and reeds that were pulled apart rather than cut, hence its unusual shape. According to tradition they were hung by the door to protect the house from fire and evil. A new cross is made every year and the old one burned to protect the house. Although this tradition is slowly dying out because houses today are made of stone and tend not to burn down, the wearing of a St Brigid Cross is still extremely popular and worn by many Irish people.
St Brigid is the female patron Saint of Ireland. We commemorate her day on the 1st of February, the first day of Spring.

I bought this necklace for my daughter for her Confirmation. She chose the name Brigid. This necklace arrived in time and is very beautiful. It's actually bigger than I was mentally picturing! Thank you Peter:)
