The Moone cross, in a town of the same name in Co. Kildare, is widely regarded as one of the most impressive high stone crosses in Ireland. This stunning 8th century cross stands a staggering 17 ft 8 inches or 5.4 m tall in the ruins of a medieval church.

Two parts of this stunning cross were unearthed in 1835 in the graveyard of the ruined church and the Duke of Leinster had them re-erected. Nearly sixty years later a third section was discovered, and the Moone cross was restored to its impressive height. It is now the second tallest stone cross in Ireland, after lying buried for hundreds of years.

This unusual cross was painstakingly carved from hard granite and depicts scenes from the bible, the crucifixion as well as many celtic designs and animals. This cross is a spectacular blend of Celtic and early Christian culture and art.

From Granite to Silver

Measuring over 1.5 inches high including a polished bale, the intricate illustrations and celtic designs of the original carving have been recreated with minute detail on front and back, all expertly finished.
