The cross of Cong dates back to the 1123. It was crafted as a shrine to house a fragment of the true cross obtained by Toirrdelbach Ua Conchobair (Turlough O’Conor), High King of Ireland. Today, replicas of this stunning medieval cross can be seen in the village of Cong, Co Mayo, where the cross was kept in the local friary until the 1880's. The original cross is on display at the National Museum of Ireland, and remains a true treasure and a spectacular example of masterful medieval Irish metalwork.
Own your own piece of Irish history with this stunning sterling silver cross inspired by the wonderful design of the original cross. Beautifully crafted and set with sparkling CZ stones replicating the glass beading on the original Cross of Cong, this is a striking and elegant piece and a wonderful conversation starter!
