Our Newgrange Inspired Jewelry Collection

At My Irish Jeweler we gather inspiration from everywhere! Our Newgrange inspired collection is no exception.

Ancient Monument of Newgrange

Newgrange is a 5200 year old megalithic structure, known Síd in Broga or Brug Mac ind Óc to the ancients. It is hard to comprehend just how ancient it is but putting it in context helps! Newgrange is 600 years older than the Pyramids at Giza and was sitting at its picturesque bend in the river Boyne 1,000 years before Stonehenge was built!

Newgrange and the Winter Solstice

Newgrange is now a famous wonder of the ancient world and a UNESCO world heritage site visited by over 200,000 each year! Visitors come at all times of the year but Newgrange is perhaps best known for the illumination of its passage tomb by the rising sun on the Winter Solstice.

From the 18th to the 23rd of December each year a narrow beam of golden sunlight penetrates and illuminates this ancient tomb, weather permitting! This is a spectacular event is said to be a somewhat spiritual experience for those lucky enough to bear witness to this astronomical wonder. Thousands apply to a lottery for a coveted and rare ticket each year. But only a handful of people can fit in the tomb and the event occurs for just a few days each year, so it really is a golden ticket.

Megalithic Symbol

At the entrance to Newgrange there is a large stone with a Tri-Spiral design engraved in the rock. This is the most famous Irish Megalithic symbol in the world. But contrary to popular belief this design is not Celtic! This design was carved at least 2500 years before the Celts reached Ireland! This fact alone is mesmerizing. This Irish megalithic tomb really is an amazing place, bursting with stories untold and perplexing historical facts.

Illuminated Design

Our Newgrange jewelry collection pays homage to this ancient wonder. Our expert jewelers have fused abstract neolithic art, such as the triskele spiral found on the Newgrange entrance stone, as well as circles and spirals, with modern contemporary designs to bring you a stylish yet historical jewelry range.

Each piece in this range is moulded from precious metals, handcrafted to mimic the coarse stone at Newgrange. In several pieces we have designed warm gold Tri-Spiral just like the one carved into the entrance stone to reflect the warm morning sunlight illuminating this ancient site each winter solstice.

Irish Design, Irish Craftspeople, Irish Jewelry

Our Newgrange inspired range is 100% Irish. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted with care, precision and attention to detail, using only the very best tools, metals and processes. Just as our pre-celtic ancestor's hand carved their intricate designs in stone at Newgrange, we pay respect to their work through our stunning collection of the same name.

My Irish Jeweler

Born in Co. Antrim and reared in Dublin, I was fascinated with Gaelic culture from an early age. I suppose it's not surprising given my mother inherited a grá for the Irish language from my grandfather, an Irish school headmaster. And that grá continues! My brother and sister are now Gaelic teachers here in Ireland, my niece is an award winning Irish dancer, and I proudly work to share Irish culture through our Irish and Celtic Jewelry at My Irish Jeweler!

I love researching and reading about the history of Irish design. It's at the core of what we do here at My Irish Jeweler. I find much of it so interesting that I have to share what I find. I hope you enjoy it!
