A Halloween Tradition: The Irish Fortune Cookie
The recipe for a Barmbrack will feature common ingredients such as flour and dried fruit. So far, so normal. But a true Barmbrack recipe will also ask you to mix in a curious list of everyday objects. If you find any of the following objects in your slice of Barmbrack your future is foretold:
- A Pea: Bad Luck! Find this in your slice and you will definitely not marry for another year
- A Coin: Congratulations! You will enjoy great fortune in the coming year
- A Stick: Oh Dear! In the next 12 months your love life will be filled with strife
- A Rag: Not Good! You will have ill fortune this year
- A Ring: Good News! You will be wed before the year is out
