This Sterling Silver 8mm History Of Ireland ring portrays the story of Ireland in iconic symbols with each symbol representing an historic event throughout the ages.
The story begins with the arrival of St Patrick to our shores who is thought to have been the first person to bring Christianity to our Island. Invasions by the Vikings then the Normans further changed Irelands course, and the great famine of the 1840's and resulting mass emigration changed the country utterly. All of these events and more are represented by symbols on this ring. The design has a total of 12 symbols telling our history, however this ring has 8 symbols due to the circumference of the band.
Michael Hilliar came up with the original symbols and concept for this clever design in 1970 for which he won many awards. Since then many designers have reinterpreted his stellar work by introducing new symbols and reworking his original icons. This ring springs from a collaboration between Michael and other Irish designers to create a new work that captures the essence of the original design. The shape of the ring has changed from the original. It is now a domed shape and made in comfort fit. This ring is truly fabulous and so comfortable to wear.
