Written by Ciaran Vipond on Jul 31, 2019 | 0 Comments

The Trinity knot is known to many as the Celtic Love Knot or Irish Love Knot. As a symbol of Eternal Love without end, it perfectly fits the significance of Wedding or indeed an Anniversary celebration.

We've had the good fortune to work with hundreds of couples over the years and have seen the many fantastic and creative ways they chose to incorporate the Trinity Knot into their celebrations. So if you are hoping to use this beautiful Celtic symbol of love in your wedding or celebration but are not sure how, we have collected the best ideas we’ve encountered to get you started

Trinity Knots for Brides or groomsman gifts

The unending loop in the Trinity design is beautifully symbolic of the commitment a couple make to each other through their marriage. So unsurprisingly, our Trinity Knot jewelry is a popular choice for Brides and Grooms gifts. Such pieces are meaningful items to wear on the big day. They also make perfect little details that your photographer is sure to enjoy capturing, and are treasured heirlooms for years to come.

Trinity Knot Gifts for a Bride

This beautiful pendant was a gift from a thoughtful groom to his bride, combining the Trinity Knot with the Claddagh, another lovely Irish symbol of love.

Trinity Knot Gifts for a Groom

There are also plenty of Trinity Knot gifts that a Groom can sport on the day. A pair of Trinity Knot Cufflinks are a subtle touch and this handsome pair is made with Irish Rose Gold sourced from Co. Tyrone, making them a wonderful future family heirloom and a piece of Ireland to treasure wherever you are in the world.

And the Trinity Knot theme needn't stop there! A gentleman can even wear his tie with a Trinity Knot tie tack or indeed an actual Trinity Knot!

Trinity Knots in your Wedding stationary

With a storied history of use in illuminated manuscripts, like the Book of Kells, the Trinity Knot is at home on paper making it a wonderful symbol to decorate your Wedding stationary. Invitations, rsvp cards, menus and more will have a little Irish flair that is sure to delight your guests, especially if you let them in on the meaning of this symbol on the day.

Incorporating the Trinity Knot in your Wedding Ceremony

Which leads us to the Ceremony itself. Given its origins and beautiful symbolism, a reading or vows that reference the meaning behind the Trinity Knot would make unique additions to a Wedding Ceremony. Many choose to incorporate a hand-fasting element to their ceremony where they literally tie the knot! Symbolizing unity and eternal love, a Trinity Knot is a natural addition to this beautiful ritual whether as a charm providing a neat end to the cord or ribbon or indeed the knot itself! You could even merge these two ideas, reciting vows that express your commitment to one another as you fasten your hands together. There won’t be a dry eye in the house!

Celtic Hand-Fasting Ceremony with Trinity Knots

One of our brides, Margie, even managed to get a golden Trinity Knot in her nail art on her ring finger to match the symbol on their hand-fasting charm, their vows and of course their My Irish Jeweler wedding bands. Now that is attention to detail!

Trinity Knot Wedding Bands: The ultimate Celtic symbol of Love

And of course we may be somewhat biased, but as jewelers working for over 50 years with Irish and Celtic Jewelry, we speak from experience when we say that Trinity Knot Wedding Rings are a fabulous choice for couples looking for deep symbolism with their bands. And the beautiful simplicity in the geometry of the Trinity Knot itself makes for iconic and striking ring designs.

We recently crafted these 14K gold Trinity Knot rings set with diamond for a lovely couple in Florida. The geometric pattern of Trinity Knots and Pave Diamonds are a striking wedding set with deep symbolism of unity and eternity. An elegant example of a Trinity Knot band that merges deep significance and meaning without sacrificing striking and eye-catching design.

My Irish Jeweler

Born in Co. Antrim and reared in Dublin, I was fascinated with Gaelic culture from an early age. I suppose it's not surprising given my mother inherited a grá for the Irish language from my grandfather, an Irish school headmaster. And that grá continues! My brother and sister are now Gaelic teachers here in Ireland, my niece is an award winning Irish dancer, and I proudly work to share Irish culture through our Irish and Celtic Jewelry at My Irish Jeweler!

I love researching and reading about the history of Irish design. It's at the core of what we do here at My Irish Jeweler. I find much of it so interesting that I have to share what I find. I hope you enjoy it!
