Stories from Our Customers: Dianna & Alan

Written by Liz Maguire on Jan 06, 2021 | 0 Comments

For many 2020 was a memorable year. For Dianna and Alan who met and married in the year, it was especially so! Thanks to Dianna for sitting with us and sharing how their Special Day included elements of their respective Irish and Indian heritage. Whether you’re a romantic or not this love story certainly seems written in the stars!

Can you tell us a bit about how you guys met?

Dianna: “Alan and I met at the end of March 2020 due to Covid. We both live in Mount Shasta, in Northern California and everything had shut down. As a way to help support the locals, Alan felt guided to offer free healings to the community. I signed up online for a healing session and we subsequently met on a Zoom call. When he asked what kind of healing I was looking for, I responded that I didn’t really need healing, but that I was 'calling in my Beloved'. He immediately knew that ‘He’ was my beloved, though said nothing of it during the call."

"When Alan officially proposed in August, he did it with a beautiful 18K gold Claddagh ring. I came to the US from the island of Trinidad when I was just 10 years old. At the age of twelve, I first saw a Claddagh ring and immediately fell in love with it. I wanted to buy one for myself but a friend explained to me that it should be given to me by someone else.

Well, I’ve finally got my Claddagh ring and I’m in love with it!”

Why did you choose rings from Ireland?

D.: “Alan’s mother Mary Lamb, a native Irish speaker, was born in the west of Ireland, not far from Claddagh! She has worn a gold Claddagh ring since her engagement more than sixty years ago. She is the daughter of the famous Irish painter, Charles Lamb."

"I chose rings from Ireland to honor Alan’s Irish heritage and we specifically chose the Celtic Warrior bands for the design and because of the legacy to the Celtic history. I have been drawn to Celtic traditions ( music, dance, and design) all my life.”

What surprised you about the Big Day?

D.: “We married in a small private ceremony on our land here at our Spiritual Retreat Center in Mount Shasta [California] called The Sacred Valley Spiritual Retreat. My mother, step-father, sisters, my daughters and grandchildren, and some of Alan’s best friends were in attendance.”

D.: “Our big day was a merging of my Indian heritage and Alan’s Irish and English ancestry and our Earth-honoring spiritual beliefs. We married in the area of our land we call the Fairy Dell which holds strong spiritual energy and is our favorite place. The trees there was an integral part of our outdoor ceremony. Many who attended told us it was the most beautiful wedding ceremony they’ve ever witnessed. We had a beautiful spiritual wedding which left everyone in tears, including the bride and groom.”

How was the honeymoon?

D.: “For our honeymoon, we chose to immerse ourselves in a personal healing retreat in the mountains of Ecuador! We participated in a coupling ceremony in our honor, facilitated by a local indigenous medicine man and his family from the pre-Incan - Cañari tribe. What a blessing!”

Comhghairdeas!

My Irish Jeweler

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thanks to my Irish born father I was lucky enough to regularly visit Ireland -- and receive visitors from Ireland often, to my childhood home. This blending of cultures triggered my interest in Irish art and culture. My love for jewelry was nurtured by my American mom who is an artisan jeweler and dealer. I grew up loving Ireland and jewelry!

Now I happily reside in Dublin, having read Irish Literature and History at Trinity College Dublin. Having a passion for Irish literature, I am particularly interested in the work of poet W.B. Yeats. With the Celtic Revival in the 20th century, Yeats and his contemporaries did much for Irish arts and history. Many of our beautiful pieces at My Irish Jeweler are inspired by the myths and legends, as well as artwork, which gained permanence in Irish heritage as a result of the Celtic Revival.

I look forward to sharing the history and stories which influence the inspiration for our pieces with the My Irish Jeweler readers.
