Stories from Our Customers: Maria & Andreas

Written by Liz Maguire on Nov 27, 2020 | 0 Comments

Maria and Andreas fell in love with Ireland as they fell in love with each other. When the couple tied the knot this year COVID-19 restrictions couldn't dampen their romance.

Thanks to this lovely couple for reaching out with their beautiful Wedding photographs and agreeing to answer a few questions for our readers.

Can you tell us a bit about how you guys met?

Maria: "Our story is much like a classic teenage love story: We both were born and raised in the same small town and (unknowingly) used to be at the same school for some years. We finally met at a party at one of our friend's house. Frankly, at this time we both hadn´t been looking for a new partner. But in the following weeks fate took its course and we fell in love with each other."

Did COVID-19 affect your plans?

M.: "Where to start?! We planned to have our civil wedding and an alternate ceremony with a big party in May 2020. With lots of luck we managed to have our civil wedding at the scheduled date and with all guests. But our ceremony and the party had to be rescheduled two times till the end of October. So sadly, in the end we were allowed to have a ceremony and a dinner with three guests. Not the day we expected, but an absolute bright, intimate, romantic and perfect day."

Why did you choose rings from Ireland?

M.: "Because of the story and the meaning of the Claddagh ring. I first got in touch with this during a student exchange with students in Dublin. In the next years I visited your beautiful island several times (both alone and together with Andy) and stayed there for a work experience during the summer of 2013. So we call Ireland our "Second Home" from the depths of our hearts."

What surprised you about the Big Day?

M.: "At the moment we woke up there was only bright daylight from dusk till dawn. Every person we met wished us good luck and congratulated us. After all this rough times, shattered nerves, tears and fears we just had our rose-red and perfect Wedding day."

Plans for a honeymoon?

M.: "The original plan was to have a relaxed day and night at a thermal spa and to stay a few days in Vienna [Austria] afterwards. Hopefully we can make this plans up some day. But as soon as we are allowed again we will first come to Ireland, of course!"

Comhghairdeas!

Congratulations to Maria and Andreas on this next chapter of their Irish love story. We at My Irish Jeweler are warmed to know that you are entering this next adventure wearing a pair of our Irish Claddagh rings. Here's to a bright and brilliant future!

My Irish Jeweler

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thanks to my Irish born father I was lucky enough to regularly visit Ireland -- and receive visitors from Ireland often, to my childhood home. This blending of cultures triggered my interest in Irish art and culture. My love for jewelry was nurtured by my American mom who is an artisan jeweler and dealer. I grew up loving Ireland and jewelry!

Now I happily reside in Dublin, having read Irish Literature and History at Trinity College Dublin. Having a passion for Irish literature, I am particularly interested in the work of poet W.B. Yeats. With the Celtic Revival in the 20th century, Yeats and his contemporaries did much for Irish arts and history. Many of our beautiful pieces at My Irish Jeweler are inspired by the myths and legends, as well as artwork, which gained permanence in Irish heritage as a result of the Celtic Revival.

I look forward to sharing the history and stories which influence the inspiration for our pieces with the My Irish Jeweler readers.
