This is a beautiful Two-Tone St Brigid Cross set with a diamond in the center. A lovely dainty piece of jewelry that would suit the petite lady. This cross has wonderful history attached to it and is a favorite piece of jewelry worn by many Irish people to this day.
St Brigid is the female patron saint of Ireland. St Brigid is also known as Muire Na Ngael, which means our lady of the Irish. Her day is celebrated the beginning of Spring on the 1st February.The distinctive shape came from making the cross out of straw, rushes,and reeds that were interwoven. This rush cross became St Brigid's emblem and has been replicated and used in designs throughout history. They were hung by the door and thought to protect the house from fire and evil. Every year a new cross is made and the old one burned to keep fire from the house. In modern times the cross is worn to protect the wearer from harm.
