This traditional Torc or torque bangle is a real classic. A simple yet striking design. Dating back to the time of the Celts, the torc or torque was worn originally as a status symbol and as a reminder of your wealth and high rank in society. The torc was a revered piece of jewelry worn in battles and other rituals.
The design forms the shape of an open ended bangle with two solid beads on either side.A superb sterling silver bangle for a Man. Robust, solid and strong, the bangle is heavy and rugged. The reverse side has a flat disc panel to allow for engraving a name or word of choice. The bangle can be worn either way though, the disc panel to the front or back. As an example our image shows ogham writing on the front & back. The choice is yours.
Ogham writing is the first known alphabet of the Irish. The Ogham alphabet consists of groups of lines from one to five, set across a vertical stem-line. Each group represents a different letter of the alphabet. There are fine examples of Ogham stones scattered around Ireland. They were initially used on stones to commemorate the passing of a loved one. This tradition is still used today.
