About This Piece

This Sterling Silver & 10k Tara brooch is a wonderful reproduction of the original design. The Tara brooch was discovered at Laytown, County Meath in August of 1850. The style and workmanship of the Tara brooch are of an early Celtic type.

The original brooch is a circle of cast Silver covered with sheets of gold foil and beautifully decorated with beads, plaited wire of gold amber, and stylized with animals and spirals. This brooch is less ornate than the original style. We have used a combination of metals, Sterling Silver set with 10k beads. There is great deal of intricate pattern on the outer circle of the brooch and the base has a superb divergent-spiral or trumpet pattern embellishment.
