Celtic Knot

Celtic Knots and knot-work are interwoven with Irish cultural legacy. For over 1500 years, the Celtic Knot has defined Irish art and metalwork

Celtic Knots run along the pages of ancient manuscripts such as the 8th Century Book of Kells. They are engraved on stone crosses that still stand a millennium later, and they elevate stunning ancient treasures like the Ardagh Chalice. It is this ancient legacy and beauty that has seen Celtic Knot-work stand the test of time.

Origin And Meaning

The early precursors to Celtic Knots made in 450 AD were spirals, plaits, braids, step and key patterns. They were made by Celts to richly symbolise people, animals, and plants.

These symbols evolved into true Celtic Knots, those with no beginning or end, by the 7th Century.

The exact meaning of the Celtic Knot has been lost in the mists of time but several interpretations suggest they were used for decoration, to denote eternity and faith, or to declare love and unity.

Modern Craftwork

The history, beauty and mystery of Celtic Knotwork has seen this emblem of Ireland adopted by many as a perfect symbol of love. Each strand is an individual. Taking two strands and weaving them together, two become one.

We use Celtic Knots in our Jewellery design to continue this wonderful tradition of craftsmanship. And we share this wonderful Celtic heritage with our customers worldwide.
