Want to wish your loved one a Happy Birthday in Irish? Let My Irish Jeweler's very own Gaeilgeoir (Irish speaker), Ciarán take you through how to wish your loved one a Happy Birthday in the lovely Irish language.

Share Your Birthday Here

The Gaelic phrase to wish someone a happy birthday is Lá Breithe Shona Duit. Breaking that phrase down we have:

  • which means day
  • Breithe which means birth
  • Shona which means happy
  • And Duit which means to you

Want a few more cúpla focail?

Cúpla focail means “a few words” in Gaelic. We love our language and love sharing it with others too. If you would like to learn more you can add to your cúpla focail with our other Irish language posts on our blog.

Need a special Birthday Gift?

And of course we are here to help if you would like to give your loved one a special gift for their birthday to match those Gaelic birthday greetings! Our Claddagh, Birthstone and Ogham collections are all customer favorites for birthday gifts that they will treasure forever.

My Irish Jeweler

Born in Dublin but reared in Canada, as a child I had an interest in Ireland that will be familiar to many young emigrants. I was completely fascinated, wanting to know all about the land of my parents and grandparents. Rare month-long family trips back "Home" cemented my love for Ireland. And I wore my Irish heritage with pride, sporting my tiny silver Claddagh gifted to me by my Irish grandparents until my finger grew too large for it!

As a young adult I moved back to Dublin, studying Geology and Mineralogy in university at historic Trinity College Dublin. After living in Denmark and the Netherlands working as a scientist and university mineralogy lecturer, I finally settled back home in Dublin. I joined the growing family at My Irish Jeweler in 2016, bringing my useful knowledge of metals and minerals as well as my perspective as an Irish emigrant with a love for HOME.

Mary Colclough

My birthday was planned for my poor mother lost 2 daughter's and a son through stillborn babies,so my doctor promised my mother he would have a lovely 🌹 surprise for Her birthday the following day.I arrived at6:30 the following evening,6lb 90 oz! Healthy bar the fact my mother had to get her neighbor to bathe me as I was so small!!Often I miss her and her not getting to see my children and my father would have been SO proud of his grand daughter getting her honours degree in U.C.D. Even though he lived the vast majority of his life in The Bronx,he never took U.S.citizenship."He was born an Irishman and would die an Irishman".He would have loved this Warrior ring,I know.So I hope I can wear it in a band of yellow gold for him,May God rest them both xx with white bands

Of Course, it's hard to find records but my sister is trying to make head way.
Thanks for the ear.
