Liz & Sam - A My Irish Jeweler first

Written by Ciaran Vipond on Sep. 09, 2021 | 0 Comments

Here at My Irish Jeweler we've been blessed to be involved in many a love story in our considerable years in the business.

And we thought we had seen it all! But in the spring of 2021 we had a My Irish Jeweler first. The entire team were over the moon to hear that Sam and our very own marketing superstar Liz, were engaged. And we were only delighted to help them find the engagement ring of her dreams.

Thanks to Liz for letting us flip the tables on her and sitting down to chat to us about their transatlantic love story.

How did you meet?

Liz: “Sam and I met in 2015 when we were both living in Washington D.C. We met online and hit it off from the beginning. On our first date, he told me I was certainly more energetic in person. He knows now! He’s a Graphic Designer with a background in ‘Sequential Art’ (Comic Books) and I’m a Marketer with a hobby for collecting vintage love letters. We both love a good story!”

“We moved together to Dublin in 2018 for our respective Graduate Degrees and stayed on. When COVID hit we bunkered down and many of our friends and family suspected an Engagement was imminent citing that we survived lockdown as a couple, so we were on the right path!

I even entered us in a competition for the Irish Times and we were interviewed as part of their series ‘Love in Lockdown’. Sam still hasn’t forgiven me for that one - what he calls ‘The Dandelion Shot Heard Round the World’ appearing on the front page of the Weekend Edition!”

Do you have a Proposal Story?

Liz: “Don’t laugh, but we got engaged in our kitchen! One evening we were tidying up after dinner and the conversation turned to ‘Why Not?’ and that was that!

So yes, a bit unconventional but very much our style. Sam said he’d been waiting for me to come around to the idea for a lot longer than I would believe so when I brought it up mid-washing up, he knew it was go-time.

It was Spring so Ireland was still in lockdown. It was a bit surreal to call all our friends and family via Facetime to tell them but we chose to look at it as part of the fun. One family friend picked up the phone and before we could say anything blurted out: ‘I know why you’re calling….you’ve never called me before! Congratulations!’"

Why did you choose a ring from Ireland?

Liz: “We chose my Ring together. I love my Halo Sapphire Diamond Engagement Ring for several reasons. It was important to me to have an Irish Ring because it represents not just my heritage but the shared adventures Sam and I have had while living here. And trust me, there have been many adventures.”

“Because we’re Dublin-based we were able to visit the My Irish Jeweler Showroom, this time as customers! I always knew I wanted White Gold as most of my jewelry is Sterling Silver and I’m not partial to mixing metals. Initially, I had my heart set on something else but when Gemma showed me the Sapphire I knew I was in love -- again! On each side of the Ring, there are Trinity Knots -- the ancient Celtic symbol for Eternal Love. Sam and I were together for six years when we got Engaged so the six points of the Trinity Knots take the meaning an extra mile for us”

Any Wedding Plans?

Liz: "We’re hoping to have our nearest and dearest join us next Autumn in the West of Ireland. If this last year has taught us anything it’s been to seize every opportunity to celebrate."

Comhghairdeas!

Congratulations to Sam and Liz on this next chapter of their transatlantic love story. We are honoured and delighted that My Irish Jeweler played a part in this happy tale! From all at My Irish Jeweler, here's to many wonderful volumes to come!

My Irish Jeweler

Born in Co. Antrim and reared in Dublin, I was fascinated with Gaelic culture from an early age. I suppose it's not surprising given my mother inherited a grá for the Irish language from my grandfather, an Irish school headmaster. And that grá continues! My brother and sister are now Gaelic teachers here in Ireland, my niece is an award winning Irish dancer, and I proudly work to share Irish culture through our Irish and Celtic Jewelry at My Irish Jeweler!

I love researching and reading about the history of Irish design. It's at the core of what we do here at My Irish Jeweler. I find much of it so interesting that I have to share what I find. I hope you enjoy it!
