Why are the holidays the most popular time of year to get engaged?

Written by Jane Chadwick on Nov 15, 2022 | 0 Comments

Kicked off by Thanksgiving for our US friends, and through Christmas and New Years, the holiday season holds top rank for the most popular days to pop the question every year. So what makes this time of year “engagement season?”

Celebrating together

Couples often get together with their family and close friends around the holidays. What better way to celebrate and toast the good news than with your nearest and dearest who are close at hand.

Time to celebrate

Getting engaged is a big deal and people understandably like to get it right and mark the event. Given the holidays often see people taking some much needed time off work, seasonal engagements mean more time together, as well as time to celebrate and mark the event.

Inspired by tradition

For many, the holidays are a time of cherished family traditions, full of love and cheer. A holiday engagement fits right in with that seasonal loved-up feeling, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Inspired by the setting

Candle light, roaring fires, cozy nights, and delectable food and drinks, the scene is certainly set for romance around the holidays. We are amazed anyone resists the lure of a sparkling Christmas tree engagement shot!

A show stopping gift

Most are in gift giving mode at the holidays. And an engagement ring is one of the most show stopping gifts you could hope to give or find waiting for you under the tree. Winning Christmas by surprising your anam cara with a ring and a proposal is tough to top.

My Irish Jeweler

Born in Dublin but reared in Canada, as a child I had an interest in Ireland that will be familiar to many young emigrants. I was completely fascinated, wanting to know all about the land of my parents and grandparents. Rare month-long family trips back "Home" cemented my love for Ireland. And I wore my Irish heritage with pride, sporting my tiny silver Claddagh gifted to me by my Irish grandparents until my finger grew too large for it!

As a young adult I moved back to Dublin, studying Geology and Mineralogy in university at historic Trinity College Dublin. After living in Denmark and the Netherlands working as a scientist and university mineralogy lecturer, I finally settled back home in Dublin. I joined the growing family at My Irish Jeweler in 2016, bringing my useful knowledge of metals and minerals as well as my perspective as an Irish emigrant with a love for HOME.
