Sterling silver St Brigid cross earrings.
St Brigid is the female patron saint of Ireland, her national day is commemorated on the 1st February representing Springtime. In times past the,St Brigid cross was made from rushes and reeds that were pulled apart rather than cut hence its unusual shape. Typically it has four arms with a square woven center.
We have mimicked the style but added gorgeous marcasite stones on the outer edges as the stone is elegant and fashionable with a wonderful metallic grayish hue. The reverse side is solid and not hollowed out with a similar pattern without the marcasite stones.
Brigid crosses were hung by the door to protect the house from fire and evil. According to tradition, a new cross is made every year and the old one discarded or burnt to protect the house from fire.
Easy to operate 'hook' fittings that wrap around the earlobe, ensuring they dangle perfectly.
Matching pendant available to complete the set.
