Sterling Silver marcasite St Brigid cross pendant.
Typically the shape of the cross has four arms with a square woven center. Sparking faceted marcasite stones have been added to the outer rims for additional beauty and shine.
St Brigid is the female patron saint of Ireland and her day is commemorated on the 1st February. The unusual shape of this cross is meant to replicate the original which was made from rushes and reeds that were pulled apart rather than cut. St Brigid crosses were hung by the door to protect the house and all those in it.
According to tradition, a new cross is made every year and the old one discarded or burnt to protect the house from fire.
The earrings have easy to operate 'hook' fittings that wrap around the earlobe, ensuring they dangle perfectly.
