The Heart of My Irish Jeweler.

Written by Vicky on Sept 20, 2024 | 4 Comments

When I initially proposed the idea of Notes From Home, my intention was to allow a bit of a Behind-the-Scenes look at the people I work with at My Irish Jeweler; they are multifaceted, multitalented, and honestly, pretty lovely. There are plenty of Irish businesses for you to choose from, after all, so we think it's nice for you to have the option of knowing who you're dealing with.

As our community of customers, supporters, and friends knows, My Irish Jeweler is a small family business. At its heart are husband and wife Ciarán and Jane. You may have seen some of their travels around Ireland in Notes From Home, whether that was exploring the sunny Southeast - note to readers: it isn't always sunny because this is Ireland! - or visiting the fabulous Fota Wildlife Park. Any time they disappear for a couple of days, they are reminded to bring back photos and adventures to share. Really, they're very good sports about it.

You know Ciarán from the videos on the Irish language and culture we share, and the live streams he does on YouTube with Gemma. As the faces of My Irish Jeweler, Ciarán and Gemma are used to being in front of the camera and sharing their thoughts with you. Better yet, they love to do so, so everyone wins! We have done a Q&A with Ciarán, and have talked to Gemma about her quarter of a century working with jewellery and watches, and they've been great fun to do.

Jane, though... Well, Jane's a little more retiring. She's happier in the background, and most of the time, that's absolutely fine. But look, one of the greatest joys in our work is hearing and celebrating our customers' and friends' remarkable love stories. We are delighted to share them because who doesn't love a love story? It brightens all our days. So, in the spirit that every day of the year should be Valentine's Day, I wanted Ciarán and Jane to sit down with a cuppa and tell us a little of their own story. And, yes, I may have nagged them into submission, but I'm pretty confident that you will agree that the end justifies the means.

This was supposed to happen in June in honor of their wedding anniversary, but it was the middle of vacation season, and other things were happening, and, well, it was better late than never, right?! So, with apologies to Jane for dragging her right out of her comfort zone and thanks to Gareth for the great video, here's a little bit of the love story that is central to My Irish Jeweler. I hope you enjoy it!

My Irish Jeweler

My Welsh grandmother introduced me to two of my great loves in life before I was four years of age: she taught me to read and, under careful supervision, permitted me to look through her jewelry box. Stories and shiny things have been my passions ever since!

In the forty years I have lived here, Ireland has changed dramatically in virtually every aspect. Among its constants, though, is a rich tradition of decorative adornment and storytelling in all its forms: from the ancient carvings at Newgrange, the beautiful golden torcs in the National Museum, and the world-famous Book of Kells, to our modern designers, writers, musicians, and craftspeople. Celtic creativity is more powerful today than ever, and that is why it's my honor to share our stories and witness yours.

My Three adult daughters are very interested in a pendant with the Hinckley family crest on it. Is there any way you could send me more information and possibly a picture of what that would look like? Thank you!

Hello Carol, how lovely. One of my colleagues will be in touch with you via email shortly with the Hinkley family crest. All the best from sunny Dublin.

Thank for sharing this great story! I’ve found your jewelry to be the perfect thing for bringing my wife and I back to our ancestry. We are still working toward dual citizenship and these stories affirm our path.
